Hi, my name is Sanni. I'm a sixteen year oldforeign exchange student from Helsinki, Finland. My host parents, David and Leah, have a young daughter named Lindy, but she is only five and I have to figure my own way through the school. That's fine though, it's fun to try and meet knew people this way. I guess I'll be a junior. I think thats what American's call it. I am straight, and in my spare time I do gymnastics.
I am polylingual. I have been taking English since I was five and it is my best language other than Finnish. In school I am required to take Swedish along with English, but I do not like Swedish very much. I have also been taking German for six years, but I am not very good in it. This is mostly because I do not speak German very often, like I do English. I would like to become a translator, one of the main reasons I am now living in Ohio with a family that is not my own. Most FInns speak English but there are of course, people out there who do not. Learning new languages is one of my favorite things, I am good at it unlike science and math. I am very bad at both of these subjects and dislike them a lot. Other than school and languages, I like gymnastics and singing. I would like to be a cheerleader at my new school but I don't know if I will make the team. Maybe the other cheerleaders won't like me because I'm not bisexual... I'm straight and this girl told me they might not like because I'm straight... I hope they do. One of my greatest fears is not having any friends this year. That would be... horrible... I hope that doesn't happen.
I was born in Helsinki, Finland, as the youngest of three boys. My oldest brother, Antti is currently twenty six and is engaged to a pretty girl named Anni. Antti works with designing pharmaceutical drugs. My next brother is Mikko. I hate to say that I have a favorite of all my brothers but Mikko is honestly my favorite. He's always there no matter what. He is twenty four and is a construction engineer. He doesn't have his own flat yet, so he lives with his friend Tommi. Jaakko is my next brother, he's twenty one. He is attending the University of Helsinki right now to become a vet.
My family is rather funny. My dad is one of the top lawyers in Finland, though I've never seen him really work and my mom is the CEO of the biggest human resource company in Helsinki. I wouldn't say that we are wealthy though. Finland is a very expensive country.
We travel a lot so there aren't really big specific trips I can talk about. I went to Hawaii when I was four, California when I was eleven, Germany almost every other year to visit my aunt. I went to London for two weeks on a language program when I was twelve and did the same thing with Germany when I was fourteen.
The biggest reason I wanted to travel to America to be an exchange student was because we have hosted two ourselves. A girl named Carolyn who I didn't really get to know because I was only twelve and a girl named Bethany. I was fifteen when Bethany came to live with us. She fit into our family very very well and I spent three hours crying when she left. Over the period of her stay, the two of us had become very close and I feel like she is my honest sister. I feel like I'm the youngest of five, not four, and my big sister is someone I can tell anything to.
My family is large and goofy and there are far too many good things that have happened to us and a fair share of bad. It is too much, however, to detail here. The biggest chunk of my history is my sister who I visit in Virginia every single year and send Finnish candy to in exchange for Skittles.
Moi. I was a foreign exchange student to Finland, hence the reason I'd like to have a Finnish character. I have been rping for five years, mostly with Harry Potter. I go by Brit and the best way to reach me is at britschruefer@gmail.com
Oh no, they're going to eat me alive... Sanni thought with horror as she pushed her way through the crowded halls of McKinley High. She felt small and lost as she traveled through the crowded arteries of the school. Her school in Finland was nothing like this. American high school so far was nothing like all the movies her friends had forced her to watch before she had come here. Maybe this whole thing was a mistake. There was no way she could go through an entire year of this... Maybe her host mom, Leah, could homeschool her like she did her daughter, Lindy. She doubted her foreign exchange program would like that very much though...
Taking a deep breath, Sanni clutched her books tighter to her chest and looked down at the schedule she had basically wrinkled into a small ball. AP ENGLISH ROOM 326. Looking up, her hazel eyes found the room two doors down. Taking a deep breath, the little blonde Finn took the last few steps and pushed the door open, ready to at least try and survive her first day of high school.
