That favorite time of the day, or what rather used to be the best time of the day. It was his free period with nothing to do. He had three tests he had already taken today and his head was really starting to hurt. He sucked with class, but he knew he had to keep those grades if he wanted to remain the quarterback of the Titans football team this year. Finn knew the minute he was failing, Bieste would bench his ass quicker than Puck could have a girl standing naked in front of him, which was pretty damn fast. Normally he would head to the gym and work out some, but he didn't have the energy for it. He was tired, physically, mentally....between school, football, and glee he didn't know how to stay refreshed. He could always go ask Mr. Schue's ex wife for "Vitamin D" pills, but nah.
He headed down the hallway and into the choir room. He figured he would just sit and relax for a bit before the end of school and everyone came flooding in here for glee practice. At least he knew the next forty-five minutes would give him a little time to rest. He walked into the room and tossed his bag to the ground next to one of the chairs and plopped down in it. He leaned himself back, sinking into the chair. He was extremely tired.
He was working extra hard focusing on football so he could possibly get a schloarship and get out of this town for good. He hadn't really spent much time in glee in doing so. He remembered yesterday, Mr. Schue talking to him making sure everything was okay because Finn had yet to make it to glee practice at all this year. Finn was lead, he needed to be there right? They had to take Nationals this year, it was there last year. He needed to win state to go to college, it was his last year. Everything HAD TO HAPPEN THIS YEAR! Ugh. Sorry. Finn closed his eyes and enjoyed the moments of silence.

Rachel tapped her foot impatiently against the ground while she watched the hands of the clock move slowly. She was trying to will them to move faster, and for the bell to signal the end of the period to ring. Normally waiting for class to be over had never been a problem for her, since she tended to quite enjoy her classes. But maybe it was because it was senior year, and she was taking more classes this semester than she had in the past that was making Rachel anxious. It was only the first month of school, but she could already feel the pressure and stress mount. Sighing, the brunette turned her attention out the window, listening to the teacher's voice drone on in her head. She longed for it to be summer again, when she didn't have to yet face the reality of being a senior.
She was more than excited, of course, because if all went well, this time next year she'd be in New York, getting ready to start her first semester at either Julliard or Tisch. She had no doubt that she'd find herself at one of those two schools come next year's fall, but in the back of her mind lingered the pesky voice that liked to taunt her with what if?'s. The bell ringing broke through her thoughts, and Rachel jumped up, quickly gathering her things before heading out of the class room. Normally she was one of the last students to leave, listening for any last minute directions the teacher might give them, but today she just felt like she could go crazy if she spent too much more time in there.
Outside of the classroom she felt lighter, and smiled. Her next period was a free one, and with no set plans to spend it with anyone, she happily made her way towards the choir room. Every couple of corners she turned, she had to backtrack a couple of times to avoid getting a slushie in the face, but her small frame allowed her to get away easily. And after years of getting one thrown at her, Rachel had learned how to quickly duck out of the way. The choir room was only just ahead of her, and when she entered she spied a familiar figure her smile faltered slightly as it turned into one of concern.
Finn hadn't actually been to Glee practice since the year started, but she'd seen him around the school on plenty of occasions. Mr. Shue had assured her that he'd talked to the older boy, but no one really seemed to know what was going on other than that. Moving to stand a couple of feet in front of him, Rachel cleared her throat slightly to make her presence known. "Hello, Finn," she said with a small smile as she slid into the seat next to him.

It was true, Finn hadn't been to glee practice at all since school started. How horrible of him. It was the second or third week of school already, or at least from what he remembered it was. Everything was moving at lightning speed he wasn't sure half the time of the day or anything for that matter. First month of school and Finn Hudson was no where near the glee club. Until today that was. He was sure everyone probably wondered where he was. He seen a lot of his friends at school so they knew he wasn't sick at home laid up in bed or anything like that. Also, if Puck and Sam were able to make it to practice then they all knew Finn wasn't in football practice. He figured the one who wondered most would be none other than Rachel.
He couldn't explain why, he just didn't have the energy he thought he had. It was senoir year, and it seemed everything was getting to him at once. Leaving Lima, his friends, becoming an adult, where he was going to go after he graduated, and most of all, what to do with his life. He knew he wasn't going to become no Broadway star or anything talent as far as music was concerned. Finn had a great voice and it was good for glee, but once graduation hit, that was probably going to be a closed chapter in his lifestyle. That was why he needed this schloarship for football. To get into college because god knows his grade work alone wouldn't do it. He figured playing college ball while figuring out what to major in was a good choice. Or just go pro, and make a career out of that.
He wasn't sure. He didn't care right now. He needed rest and rest was what he was going to get. At least he thought so. He didn't realize that Rachel had free period as well this period and of course she'd come to the choir room. If she wasn't practicing her voice then she was sleeping most of the time. Finn layed his head back in the chair for a few minutes before hearing a throat clear and his eyes darted open to see the once flame of his. Rachel sat down beside him with a soft smile, and he returned it rubbing his eyes. He felt so drowsy. "Hey Rachel." he said to her before sitting up in the chair. He let out a sigh as he stretched slightly. "What's up?" he asked the brunette.

She didn't say anything for a few seconds, waiting for Finn to return her greeting. Instead, she smoothed out a couple invisible wrinkles in her gray sweaters that was sitting over her black tank top as her mind came up with different scenarios as to why Finn might not have been in glee for the last couple of weeks. She and plenty of the other members had seen him around the school, so he obviously wasn't home sick or with a broken leg or anything. Had he been going to football practices? She couldn't remember if Puck or Sam had mentioned anything, Rachel had a tendency to tune them out when they started talking about the sport. The one and only time she'd actually paid attention to it was when she and the others girls had played for that one game...it was lucky that they hadn't actually done much other than drop to the ground when the ball was thrown, since by the time they found themselves on the field, Rachel had forgotten half of what Coach Bieste had said.
Mentally shaking her head as her thoughts drifted, Rachel peaked a glance over at Finn from the corner of her eye. He had shifted, and she turned to face him more fully as she realized it was in a way a return of her own greeting. He looked...tired, she though, though not necessarily just physically tired, even thought that was definitely showing in his face. Sitting up a bit straighter in her own chair, Rachel glanced over at him once more with a worried expression.
Ignoring his question about her, she replied with the thoughts on her mind. "Haven't seen you in Glee since the year started," Rachel began with a small shrug, though the worry was still on her face. They might have a rocky romantic past that hadn't worked out, but it didn't mean she didn't care for him as a close friend. "Is everything okay, Finn?" Her teeth caught her lip between them and she worried the flesh as she waited for him to answer, though after a couple of seconds her mouth opened once more. "Are you getting enough sleep lately? It's very important to teenagers, especially, and being in our senior year and all, it's most important to us. But, well, we miss you in Glee. It's odd not having you around." she finished in all one breath, taking a moment to replace the oxygen she had just emptied from her lungs.

Finn looked over at the brunette and smiled. He missed seeing her around. He was just so focused on doing well this year in football. After all, the football team didn't have the most...winning record for the school. Hell they sucked. Last year the only time they did any good was when the glee club helped out. He had to admit though, seeing the girls in football gear was kind of hot. It seemed the only time the football team did any good was when someone in glee stepped in. Example, Kurt as kicker with the idea of throwing off the other team doing 'Put a Ring On It' which he still admitted was a little strange, and then last years thing with the girls.
This year couldn''t be a losing season at all so that meant Finn was working double hard to get on track. He was sure Puck and them were doing the same because they hated losing, but they still had time to go to glee practice. Why wasn't Finn so devoted this year? He didn't have any idea. He felt bad for leaving the gang up and dry without him though. He heard Rachel ask if he was getting enough sleep and he nodded. "Yea, I'm fine I just..I don't know what it is. This year seems to have a lot on my plate than the others. It's draining me more." he told her honestly. He would be alright though he was sure.
He looked to her when she said it was odd not having him around. He had to admit he sorta missed not being in there either since school started. "Sorry, I didn't mean to leave you guys with everything. I know we need to work hard if we want to win this year." he tried to offer a smile. He didn't want to talk about his problems though. "Have I missed anything important so far?" he asked curiously wondering what he had been missing since his absence.

She caught his smile out of the corner of her eye, and smiled herself. It was nice to see him smile, since it made him look more like the Finn she knew so well. Propping her elbows on her thighs and her chin on her hands, Rachel watched him as he answered her question. She nodded a couple of times, because she could understand what he was saying. Senior year was starting to have affects of everyone, she noticed, but it seemed to be affecting him the most. "Maybe," she started before pausing and backtracking in her words. She didn't want to sound like she was accusing him of anything, after all, she just wanted to offer a simple suggestion. "If you need any help with time management or anything, let me know?" Rachel left it as a question, but smiled once more anyways. "I'm sure we could find a way to balance everything out and still make sure you have enough time to get proper rest and everything."
Rachel shook her head slightly at his question, a couple strands of brown hair falling into her face. "No, we haven't done much yet other than a bit of a pet talk from Mr. Shue about the beginning of the year," she replied. Despite her constant mentions about starting getting ready for regionals early, the rest of the group seemed content to simply settle in for the first few weeks, and Rachel had given up for the time being. It was a bit of a nice break, she had to admit, since it gave her a bit of a chance to get all her classes in order and everything else. Her head still felt like it was reeling from the idea of getting ready to get college applications in order and just wrapping her mind around the fact that it was her senior year - their last chance to win nationals. She nodded in agreement with the first part of his words, however, because they really needed to put their all into glee if they wanted to win. "I think we need to start thinking about set list ideas," she mentioned, repeating the words that she'd been saying the most lately.
"We could use your input, however...the rest of the group always seemed to listen to you more than they did to me." she said after staying silent for a couple of second, turning to glance at him once more.

Finn was in need of time management. He needed it all to just go away. Everything this year to just slow down or stop completely but he knew it wouldn't happen. He smiled at Rachel's offer for time management help, but he would refuse. He had to do this on his own and he had to make sure he focused on football this year, not the club. Although the club was important to him as well and he would try to continue both, but this year he knew what would have to have more of his attention than the other. "Thanks Rachel, I really appericate that." he told her with a smile. He did. She was a good friend to him. Sure the two had on and off things for each other, but they were becoming good friends, and of course no matter what Finn did still care for Rachel.
He listened as she told him what all he missed. He could only imagine what Mr. Schue's words were to the guys this year about how close they were and they shouldn't regret the way things turned out even though Finn knew some of the members probably still blamed him and Rachel for them not placing. "I can only imagine what he said." he laughed slightly and looked to her. He was lost in thoughts for a moment as he looked at her beginning to think about Nationals and what happened. He snapped out of it realizing he was staring out into his thoughts at her and that was a bit awkward. He shook it off. "So..ahem." he said clearing his throat and standing up before walking towards the piano and turned back to Rachel when she said that the club listened to him more than her. "Come on Rachel, that's not true. Look at last year. It was your idea to come up with original songs and look how far it got us. You capable of leading us again this year. That's why you're captain." he said with a small smile.

Rachel beamed at his response, happy to be able to help in anyway. "Of course; it's one of the things I'm best at," she said with another smile tapping her fingers against the plastic of the chair she was sitting on, "I'm glad to help in any way I can." While there were only a few people who seemed to like her enough call her a friend, Rachel had always offered her help to the members of the Glee club should they need it. She knew how stressful High School could be, but with the added pressure of graduation looming ahead of the seniors, as well as Nationals towards the end of the year, this year was going to be even harder.
"There was a lot of 'Don't let what happened last year hang over your heads,' and 'This is our year' and I think he even quoted Don't Stop Believin' a couple of times," Rachel repeated some of the choir teacher's pep talk, laughing quietly. She wasn't sure how many of them were too interested in the talk, but it had been a nice way to start off the year anyways. After all, it was their last chance at winning Nationals while for the seniors of the group. And it would look fantastic on her transcript for Julliard if it showed that she and her teammates had placed in at least the top ten. She had fallen into her thoughts for a couple minutes, only to have them broken through by Finn making a sound and standing up to walk over to the piano.
Looking up in surprise, Rachel glanced over at him as he started talking once more. She nodded once in agreement - it had been her idea to try their hand at original songs for Regionals and Nationals so they would have something new to wow the judges with, but she had honestly felt like the whole part of convincing the rest of the members to go along with her plan had been like pulling teeth. In a lot of ways, Rachel figured they had actually agreed to it because their original plan of covering My Chemical Romance had fallen through. In the end it had gotten them to Nationals, however, so she couldn't really complain too much. "Really? Not because I'm bossy and loud, and no one really wanted to deal with trying to find another captain?" she joked, wondering if that was partially a reason she had been named captain of the team. She had good ideas, she knew, but most of the time she only got her way because she could overpower other people with her voice despite her small stature.

Time management isn’t what I need. I need a miracle.
He loved Rachel for caring. She was a good friend, and he would always have that spot for her in his heart. She was different than most people see her, and Finn always saw that. Sure, maybe things didn’t work out once, twice, okay not even three would have worked. He knew they said third time was always a charm, but the fact was he knew it wasn’t going to. She was musically focused on graduating and going to New York to Broadway, and Finn was going to be focused on just trying to get into college in general. He kept his grades up, but not the way they should have been. He’d be lucky to go anywhere without a scholarship and this was why it was so important. Even if he got straight A’s by having help with Artie or something probably wouldn’t raise his GPA up enough for a college to look twice at his application. He knew he slacked off the last three years of high school. He passed the years needed, but barely.
Nationals….
There was a good memory for Glee club to always remember. He remembered it well. The song, the kiss, the hotel room after with Santana going off like a rabid taco bell dog. (only cause I can’t spell the name of the dog. Chiquia or something –shrug-) He could imagine when Mr. Schue came in and said for the club not to dwell over what happened last year, the guys had some things to say about it. He could see Santana and Puck saying something definitely. Probably even Quinn for that matter, so he was kind of glad he wasn’t there for that one. He laughed slightly at Mr. Schue quoting Journey though. The man seriously needed a new genre of music to be obsessed over. Finn liked 80’s rock and a lot of good music came from it, but he had never seen anyone obsessed like that man was when it came to Journey.
He looked at Rachel and laughed slightly. ”Well, that could have had a bit to do with it. Not to mention we voted you captain when they wanted to put glee in the yearbook.” he teased remembering when that day happened. Everyone was so afraid of the yearbook being de-faced and since Rachel was so about representing the rest of the club agreed. That was when he became co-captain of glee as well, but he didn’t show. At the time he was worried about what others still thought about him and he didn’t want to be de-faced. He felt bad for leaving Rachel there that day, but it worked out in the end because the entire glee club was there for it. ”But seriously Rachel, you have good ideas when it comes to this club. They may not admit it or seem like they like the idea, but they do.” he said honestly.

"Right, when no one wanted their pictures to be defaced," Rachel replied, her tone a bit more bitter than originally intended. "Sorry," she muttered somewhat sheepishly after the words were out. She was still a bit bitter that they Glee club had nominated her to be captain and have her picture representing the club in the yearbook, mostly so they wouldn't have to worry about the popular kids ruining their pictures. It was a couple years ago, though, so she didn't let it bother her as much anymore, but it wasn't one of her favorite memories. Rachel had just never understood why people would go out of their way to ruin someone's yearbook photograph for the hell of it. But then again, she probably wouldn't while she wasn't part of the popular crowd.
Glancing back up at Finn, she smiled at his words. She had learned that most of the Glee members didn't tend to show their agreement to her ideas, but they went with them anyways, so it seemed like they weren't totally against them. But it was certainly nice to hear from someone that her ideas were actually liked. As captain of the team, it was important. And while she could just continue on with her ideas without caring whether the rest of the group liked them or not, it sounded a bit much of what she imagined Vocal Adrenaline to be like, which was something no one wanted.
"Thanks, Finn," she replied with another smile, pushing some hair behind her ear. "You always have some great song ideas that you bring to the group, you know," she continued, "I think we could use some of those right now. We seem to be at a loss of what kind of music to bring to Sectionals this year." They hadn't discussed it too much as a whole group, but with the people Rachel had talked to, they couldn't seem to quite come up with too many ideas for the songs. As much as original songs had gone pretty well for them, she knew they couldn't continue with them for too much longer without becoming predictable to the judges. But they had done so much classic rock covers, too, that they couldn't really do much of that for too much longer either. They needed something new.

Finn looked to Rachel and curiously raised an eyebrow when she mentioned the pictures being de-faced. Even though it was a few years ago he still felt bad for leaving her to take the picture alone at the time. "Yeah..." he trailed off running his finger a long the piano before looking back to her. "I said I was sorry for leaving you there right?" he asked curiously not remembering if he did or not. If he didn't he would now although it was like..two years later. He still felt bad about that though. Not one of Finn's defining moments for sure. He was sure he did though, although seriously he had no idea if he actually had or not.
He looked to her again when she said thanks for the comment about the club and her ideas. It was true though. Although Rachel could be pushy, she did have talent. That was the reason Finn fell for her so easily. She didn't show fear, at least not when it came to what she wanted or her talent. He liked her strong statue of self-confidence. It was one of her best qualities. Not to mention he didn't have to try so hard around her. Even now.
"Song ideas? Honestly Rachel I don't know if I come up with anything this year. I mean, I'm so focused on football right now and trying to get into college..." he trailed off knowing if he continued it would make it sound like he was leaving the club or something. He loved Glee, but there was no future in that for him. He just didn't know what he would be doing this year. Normally Finn and Rachel would be cooking up something great for the glee club, but he honestly had no ideas at the moment. "I'm sure Mr. Schue will come up with something for us though. He's usually good at last minute changes. And you." he smiled slightly.
