WILLIAM MCKINLEY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT HANDBOOK
I. DISCLAIMER
GLEE and its characters, along with any situations described in the show that may appear on How Many Times Will It Take? belong exclusively to FOX and the show's writers, Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan, and Brad Falchuk. No copyright infringement intended.
HOW MANY TIMES WILL IT TAKE? is an online roleplay based off the hit FOX telivision series, Glee. It is intended for entertainment purposes only. Site graphics and codes are the exclusive property of your admin, Haley. There will be no ripping of codes or stealing of site graphics.
HMTWIT'S MEMBERS own all of their own writing and original characters. Character graphics belong exclusively to the original artist and should not be used without permission from said artist. There will be no stealing of characters or writing, and plagiarism will result in character deletion.
II. CODE OF CONDUCT
HOW MANY TIMES WILL IT TAKE? has a site rating that may range anywhere from PG to M for mature audiences - however, as stated in the Proboards Terms of Service, they DO NOT allow roleplaying of mature sexual themes. Sexual scenes should be posted in a fade-to-black style or should be kept off the boards altogether. Please label threads containing any sort of non-sexual mature content (i.e. drugs, alcohol, etc.) with an "[M]" warning before posting.
* use your best judgement when deciding what content is too offensive to be posted. swearing does not fall under the mature category, and does not require a warning in the title.
BULLYING/HARASSMENT How Many Times Will It Take? uses a zero-tolerance policy when dealing with acts of bullying and/or harassment. The staff would like HMTWIT to remain a safe place for members to escape the stresses of real life and become another person entirely. Bullying and harassment will be dealt with as if they were a fifth offense (note: see 'CONSEQUENCES').
RESPECT all staff, members, and guests. The staff's word is law, and you must comply with anything they tell you to do. On the other hand, staff members may not make ridiculous demands or haze members. Anything told to you out-of-character was most likely told in confidence and should not be repeated. Drama will occur from time to time, as with any family, and should be handled by the staff. Please report any sort of drama to a staff member to be dealt with immediately.
CHARACTER LIMIT The number of characters that one roleplayer may control is four. This may be any combination of male and female, canon and original, except you may not have all characters of one gender or type. Contact an admin if you want and think you can handle a fifth character, and we can discuss it.
TWO PARAGRAPHS is our minimum requirement for how much you must write per in-character post. One-liners are extremely frustrating to recieve and are only acceptable out-of-character or in the c-box. There is no specific number of words you must write per post as long as you are meeting our two-paragraph requirement. Remember that we are trying for complete thoughts, dialogue, monologue, and all of that fun stuff. All in-character posts should be in third-person, past-tense.
ACTIVITY Members must remain active - that refers to logging in at least once every two days and posting, whether it be in-character or out-of-character. Staff, we expect you to be as active as possible - so if you can get on daily, please do - so as to set a good example for our members and to get any problems that may have arisen resolved quicker. The occasional activity check may pop up to test your activity. Simply log in and post in the Activity Check thread with whichever characters you wish to keep. Characters who don't post in the Activity Check thread within the time limit (usually a couple of weeks) will be deleted.
III. STUDENT REGISTRATION
CHARACTERS may be applied for by filling out the interview application and posting it under the 'Pending' sub-board. Please reserve canons before applying for them, and check the face claim before choosing a play-by.
* the staff reserves all rights to deny ANY application submitted to the site for the following reasons: illiteracy (grammatical errors, spelling errors, etc.); unanswered questions; incomplete answers; errors with the application template that seem to be at the direct fault of the author, not from a site glitch; obvious lack of experience; any content offending the site rules or proboards terms of service; or any other personal reasons the staff may see fit
RESERVED CANONS must be applied for within 48 hours of being reserved. After posting a WIP application for any canon character, the roleplayer reserves the right to that canon for another week.
SIBLINGS/CHILDREN of canon characters are allowed with the explicit, WRITTEN permission of the admin AND the roleplayer who plays said canon, as well as any other canons belonging to said canon's family (i.e. a sister to Finn Hudson would need permission from not only the admin and roleplayer who plays Finn, but the roleplayers who play Carole Hudson-Hummel, Burt Hummel, and Kurt Hummel).
* rule does not apply to canon siblings/children (i.e. Stevie and Stacy Evans).
POSTING Please do not post in any claims or threads until your character is accepted. You may, however, post in the c-box as a guest.
IV. EXTRACURRICULARS
FOOTBALL TEAM/CHEERIOS as well as other McKinley High sports do not require that you try out for a position. Positions, however, must be claimed in the Extracurricular Claim. Canons who are a part of the football team or the Cheerios will have dominance over any originals who apply for that position (i.e. Finn Hudson would have the rights to the Quarterback position over an original who applied).
NEW DIRECTIONS/WARBLERS/VOCAL ADRENALINE may, however, require a sign-up and post in an audition thread. These sign-ups will occur periodically at the will of the admin and/or the roleplayer responsible for playing Will Shuester, Dustin Goolsby, or anyone else affiliated with directing one of the said glee clubs/show choirs.
V. ROLEPLAYING
GODMODDING/POWER PLAYING is against the rules. For those of you unfamiliar with the terms, godmodding refers to any control a roleplayer attempts to have over another roleplayer's character without their permission. Power playing is when your character is essentially invincible and manages to evade all harm. This does apply to roleplay fighting - for example, you may write that your character hit another character, but you may not write what their reaction was (i.e. you CAN write: "Puck punched Finn in the face." but you CANNOT write: "Puck punched Finn in the face, and Finn fell down.")
TEXT SPEAK is not allowed in posts, unless referring to a text message that was sent to your character. It IS, however, allowed to be posted in text messages in other characters' cell phone threads and in the c-box. But talkin lik dis can b very easy 2 misunderstand, as u can prob c.
TAGGING your threads is required. If your thread is reserved for someone, please tag it with '[their name here]' and if your thread is open to anybody, tag it with '[open].' Threads can also be tagged with '[name, open],' etc.
POSTING ORDER Have a posting order so that other members involved in your threads can have a chance to post. If a character has been fairly inactive - that is, if they haven't logged in for two or more weeks - you may skip their turn.
IN-CHARACTER HARASSMENT should not be taken personally and should hopefully not be an issue. However, if something another character says to you, either in-character or out-of-character, makes you feel personally threatened or uncomfortable, do not hesitate to contact a staff member and they will handle the issue however they see fit.
VI. C-BOX
ALL RULES APPLY in the c-box unless stated otherwise. What I mean by that is if you are reading a rule and it says that something is not allowed in posting, but IS allowed in the c-box (i.e. 'text speak'), that rule does not apply to the c-box.
REAL-LIFE DRAMA is something that we would prefer our members to stay out of if possible. Please do not be an instigator for RL drama. If we find out that someone specific is harassing other members or purposely causing trouble, we will deal with it however we see fit. Feel free to get a staff member involved in any real-life drama that pops up, but we cannot make promises on how we will deal with the situation.
SEXUAL CONTENT/SWEARING should be kept to a minimum in the c-box. Minor swearing is allowed, but sexual or mature content will be removed immediately and the agressor will be punished accordingly. The c-box is often the first thing a guest sees upon entering a roleplaying site, and you do not want to give them the impression that our members are vulgar or distasteful.
MEMBER RIGHTS As a member of How Many Times Will It Take? you reserve all rights to refuse to give out any of your personal information or to answer any questions that make you feel uncomfortable. If people are exchanging information or pictures of themselves, you do not have to take part in this. Remember that if anything happening in the c-box makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable in any way, come straight to a staff member and they will deal with the situation.
SPAM is not allowed in the c-box, and can be defined as posting advertisements anywhere but in the advertisement board, cluttering up the c-box with repetitive or unnecessary messages, or posting vulgar messages in the c-box for the sake of making other members feel uncomfortable. Members and guests should not take part in this as it clutters up the site and is very frustrating for the staff to deal with. If the occasional guest spammer or spambot pops up, as will happen with even the best of sites, they are usually anonymous and can be categorized by cluttering the c-box with repetitive messages or by posting rude or vulgar messages in an attempt to make members feel uncomfortable. If you have ever been the target of a guest spammer, you probably know how awkward and sometimes even frightening this can be to handle. So we ask that you simply report any spammers that you see in the c-box to the staff immediately.
GUESTS should be treated no differently than you would treat a member or staff member - with respect. Guests are allowed to come to the c-box with any questions that they may have about the site. Members, please do not turn away guests and try to be as helpful and polite as possible. Guests, you must follow the c-box rules as well, and if we catch you spamming or posting hurtful comments about the site or members, we will deal with you as we would anyone else.
VII. CONSEQUENCES
FIRST OFFENSE will result in an informal warning.
SECOND OFFENSE will result in a formal, more serious warning.
THIRD OFFENSE will result in a day-long ban.
FOURTH OFFENSE will result in a week-long ban.
FIFTH OFFENSE will result in a lifetime ban.
* please note that the staff reserves all rights to deal with any offense however they see fit - more serious offenses may jump straight to the third or even fifth offense consquences. arguing with the staff about any consequence you may have to face, or refusing to comply with any consequence you may have to face, is useless and will only result in making the situation worse for yourself. we don't reccomend it.
