Laughter. Screams. Kisses. Punches. Slams. Sanni wasn't used to any of this. She kept her head down and tried to dodge all of it, but it was surrounding her, overwhelming her. Her school was nothing like this. They were quick and silent in the halls. A few laughs, a few quiet chatter here and there, a teacher chiding someone for being late to class. That was it. Quick, easy, not at all life threatening. Unlike this hallway.
Sanni didn't even know where her locker was, or any of her classes. People shoved past her, pushed her aside, not caring. No one seemed to care. She was just another face in a crowd of them. Not one of these American students noticed that she was new, that she had never been in this school before.
It was only her first day though. The very beginning of it. It didn't look like the outcome would be bright, but she would wait at least a week before begging her host mother, Leah, to homeschool her. Silently, she prayed her own brothers would come across the sea and help her through this day, but whatever. She had to at least try to make the most of her year in America.
As Sanni continued down the hall, the crowd began to thin and she let out a quick breath of relief. This however was a mistake as her petite body collided into something that felt oddly like, well, another body. Fumbling, Sanni fell to the tile floor, her schedule and new books scattering out around her. "Voi vittu..." She cursed, covering her blue eyes with her hands as to avoid whomever it was she had crashed into.
