how else could she explain it? she was sick of having to hide in order to be told that she was safe when in fact she felt the total opposite. she hadn't bothered to keep track of how long it had been since she had moved to nearby akron, ohio with her aunt, a kind woman who had been devestated when her sister had died after giving birth to her neice. in truth, kathryn was only sixteen years older then alex was, and that was perhaps what made it more awkward for the both of them in a way. they were close enough to be sisters in age and apperance, but her father's rules of dealing with her mother's family had made it rather difficult for alex to see much of kathryn in the last ten years or so, which suited his purposes just fine. she didn't want to think of where she would be now if kathryn had not randomly showed up on their doorstep to try and pursuade her brother-in-law to let her see her neice...
no, the thought was not something she could stomach the thought of. it had been four years now that she had put up with the abuses of living under his roof, stealing away her innocence and youth with each passing day. no, she should be greatful that kathryn had taken her away when she had. her arms tightened a little where she had folded them across her chest, eyes downcast toward the pavement as she thought about the things that had brought her to live away from new york city. why couldn't she just accept the fact that she was much better off where she was, in a place that might actually give her a chance to heal from the cruelties that had etched themselves into her skin, which she even now hid away from the eyes of the one person in the world who had proven that they loved her? well, the fact that she was now a part of vocal adrenaline certainly wasn't going to help matters. goodsby had not taken her lightly, it had taken quite a bit of begging from her aunt to secure her a place in the glee club, and it was a place that she dreaded with her very soul.
that's why she had cut school that day and wandered around akron for a little while before she found herself in nearby lima.
so there she was, long after the school hours were over, having just texted her aunt to let her know that she was safe and would be home in a few hours, flopping on a nearby bench. the overly large sweater on her thin frame hung loosely off her one shoulder, briefly exposing the beginnings of the welts, scars and bruises that were only now beginning to fade away into something a little less noticeable before she tugged it quickly back over her shoulder. the street seemed reasonably deserted at this hour, nearly time for dinner she was sure, but she wasn't going to take any chances. alex had learned the hard way that the only person she could rely on absolutely for things was herself, and she had taken care of herself since she was able to walk and talk. so why stop now? it's not like anyone else would care anyway.

[/div] tearing love apart, Paris had just finished her shift at the Lima Bean, and when she walked out of the coffee shop, there was a light drizzle. She had definitely always been an interesting person, because while everyone else ran around trying to find cover from the tiny droplets, the smell and sound and feel of them simply put a smile on her face. There was something relaxing about it, much like many people found sunny days relaxing. And it was a nice thing to come out to right as she got off work. Her shift had been slow, but she couldn't complain. There were still people there to keep her entertained, and she had managed a few conversations with some of them. And not to mention, the best part about working in a coffee shop besides free coffee? The people watching. There was always something interesting happening, whether it be someone having an argument over a tiny thing that wasn't going to matter in a couple hours, or some of the gossip that flew around the small town. And not that she thrived on the gossip like some of the other women her age around here, but it was still entertaining. And she could always use entertainment during slow shifts when she wasn't doing her homework for classes.
Of course, now that the rain was starting - just barely - people were bring driven inside by the obvious danger the tiny drops posed. She almost felt a bit bad for whoever had the next shift after her, since this next crowd was certainly going to be a busy one. But she couldn't really be bothered to think about it much, instead setting off to wander around Lima with her umbrella resting over her shoulder. It wasn't needed, really, but it completed her look of being ready for the rain. The town was mostly quiet, but then again, it was the middle of the day. Most people were either working or in school, unless they were some of the few students who would rather skip classes more than anything. Not that she could really say much, considering that she used to be that kind of kid when she was in high school. Mostly she tended to ignore the kids she did see skipping, sometimes starting a conversation if they seemed interesting. Most of them weren't, seeing as though they mostly chose to stare at her chest or just her in general, but she had met a couple more artsy kids while they were doing something. Most of them freaked out that she would tell someone they were skipping, and she had just laughed. Yeah, she was old enough to buy alcohol now, but really, who was she to tell someone whether or not there were people skipping school? It was none of her business, and she didn't really care either way.
Eventually her wandering had turned into spending most of the rest of the day walking around the town multiple times, window shopping around the small mall and having a light dinner in the food court area before setting out again. By now the rain had disappeared, and she had her umbrella closed and hanging off her arm as she walked, her hair falling over one shoulder in a messy braid as she looked around before continuing. The problem with Lima being a small town was that there were only so many places that you could visit, and even then, you could only visit those places a few times before getting incredibly bored and tired of seeing the same thing over and over again. It was the same with the people. Everyone knew each other, so there wasn't much excitement in trying to find something interesting other than gossip to tell them. It was how she found herself now walking towards where she knew there were a couple of benches around the area, flopping down in the closest one once she reached it. There was a girl sitting next to her when she glanced over, and Paris noticed almost immediately that the girl was one she had definitely not seen before.
She was pretty, but in a way that wasn't necessarily conventional. She has dark hair pilled on top of a head with dark eyes and pale skin, a large shirt hanging around her neck and jeans on after that. Turning towards her slightly, Paris pulled a smile on her face before reaching out with one hand. "Hi, there. I'm Paris. You're not from around here, are you?" 755, outfit here, I hope you don't mind I wrote like 200+ words more than you have! haha. she'd chosen to wander at that time of day because she knew that most people would either be on their way home from work or already sitting down for dinner. there was nothing she wanted more in the world then to be left alone at that very moment, and this was when she had deemed it safe to emerge from her shell a little and take a seat in a public place. she should have known what would happen when she had, for it seemed that those were the types of things that quickly married themselves to the frightened and battered girl. she should have known by that point in her life that when she wanted one thing, the complete and total opposite was what happened.
her arms tightened around her a little as a chill crept up her back, the sweater far too big to really do her any good with what she had underneath it. her bra was tightly pressed against her skin, and the tank top she would have worn to rehearsal that night was definitely not made of the thickest material either. in truth, she wished she had been smart worn a little more to school that day so that when she decided to make a run for it, she wouldn't be tempted to shiver against the cool autumn winds. even the sensitive patches of skin that were still newly healing were rather prone to the cold, feeling them ache a little more against the chill. but alex clenched her teeth a little tighter together to prevent any sound from passing by her lips. she hated it when she felt the need to react like that, her memory then swarmed with the rememberance of what she had escaped back home in new york....but new york wasn't home anymore. she was the awkward transplant who now lived somewhere between akron and lima in the state of ohio.
right in the middle of nowhere.
a voice in her ear startled alex, causing the girl to gasp and pull away a little from the sound. but it wasn't anyone overly frightening who loomed over her smaller frame. in fact it was a woman, someone who didn't appear too much older then herself, who offered both a smile and a friendly hand to shake. but of course, there was no handshaking with alex. nobody had touched her since she had been taken from her father's house, save for the small hand that had been placed on her back by a police officer, and she'd been quick to jump away from that like a frightened bunny rabbit. no, not even kathryn had been allowed to touch her yet. "um...h-hi..." she said nervously, her voice barely above a whisper. "n-no...i-i'm not from h-here..." what more was there to say? alex wasn't a chatty person by nature, and recent events had made it rather difficult to communicate with anyone but herself.
still, her dark eyes were wide as she looked up at the young woman, flickering between her face and her outstretched hand. it was rude, she thought to herself, rude to ignore a gesture like that. but she couldn't bring herself to do anything else. the very thought of touching her hand and perhaps being lured into a trap was too much for her mind to handle at the moment. no, she was safer where she was. oh why had she come out that day?
