Ah, politics. Kurt never really imagined a political life for himself, but after the humiliating experience of the NYADA mixer, Kurt was determined to make the most out of senior year and increase his chances of getting into NYADA. Thus, Kurt Hummel's political plan for McKinley domination began.
Kurt had spent the last several days pondering the best way to announce his candidacy to the school. Student government at McKinley wasn't the most wide-spread or well-thought out system, but if elected president, Kurt was going to redefine it. When you're a fashionable and demanding divo, you want the best for yourself - and the student body at large.
The campaign posters that Kurt had designed himself were very Judy-like, having stolen the mink and black and white style from one of her infamous photo shoots. Kurt beamed as he made his way down the hallway, his posters tucked away in his bag as he attempted to figure out a way to truly rock the vote here.
Being openly gay and in glee club proposed challenges to possible voters, but it wasn't like much of the student body even cared who ran the school. The president of the student council didn't hold that much power and most the population of McKinley wouldn't even vote - let alone care who got elected. It was perfect really, and Kurt himself was running unopposed, so he wouldn't have to resort to any kind of mudslinging, but if someone were to run against him - his claws would come out.
NYADA was on the line, and if running for student council president was the way into the hearts of the NYADA admissions people and his pathway to New York, Kurt was going to do it. Making his way to his locker, Kurt began his morning routine as usual, still attempting to figure out a good way to begin his campaign.
Grabbing his books for his morning classes, Kurt smiled and made his way down the hallway, noticing the glares from the jocks and the usual Neanderthals of McKinley. No, not even they could rain on his parade - senior year was going to be magical - between the campaign and the upcoming school musical, Kurt couldn't ask for a better senior year. Well, he could - if Blaine would transfer to join him at McKinley, but the issue had always been a touchy one.
All summer, Kurt had attempted to get Blaine to see that transferring to McKinley would be the right way to go. A little nudge, a little pushing, but alas - Blaine was at Dalton, and Kurt wasn't going to push the issue too much more - perhaps a few more nudges and pushes? Just nothing too stressful, because the last thing Kurt wanted to do was push Blaine too far.
Making his way into homeroom, Kurt sat down - his mind buzzing, he needed some way to formally launch his campaign. "How did Elle Woods do it in Legally Blonde 2?" Kurt thought to himself, placing his head gently against his hand, deep in thought.
Clearly, this was going to be tougher than he had anticipated.

Sam, honestly, had no interest in any more extracurriculars than the usual football and glee club, and he wasn't really worried about it. Unlike most of his friends, his senior year was still pretty far away, and unless he got a full scholarship in the event of some kind of miracle, it wasn't like college was going to be within his reach. So whatever clubs, et cetera were in his repertoire weren't really of much importance now. However, Kurt being a friend of his and all, he was very well aware of his worries about college. Sam knew he had his eye on a particular school and that he and Rachel had both been not only extremely touchy but also extremely competitive after a run-in with some other hopefuls. The plan was currently for Kurt to run for student body president - the odds of him winning the position worried him deeply, but he would be supportive and maybe make up a few posters - and Sam was all for it, but he had no idea how someone as flamboyant as Kurt would appeal to the average McKinley high student.
Sam being concerned about Kurt's campaign, he'd done his best to tuck it into a musty corner of his brain until passing by one of his friend's posters on his way to homeroom that morning. He paused and examined it for a moment, not really sure how he felt. There wasn't much of a slogan, but it was somewhat elegant and much more subtle than he would have expected for Kurt, which was probably a good thing. The whole 'refined' part of it would be hard to gain favor with - especially when the whole thing was obviously a popularity contest and people didn't really see popularity potential in someone who was so different from them, because face it, they wanted to be able to look at the popular people and easily pretend they were them. No loser was going to look at Kurt and wish they were him, as much as Sam hated to admit it, unless they were Rachel, and maybe he could count himself...after all, he did sort of think it was cool that Kurt was so comfortable with himself. Sam had spent most of his life caring what other people thought, so it was only more recently that he knew what it felt like to not really give a crap when you walked down the hallway what people were thinking of you. It wasn't really anyone's business anyways, and it was stupid that it had taken Sam so long to realize it, but there was no going back now. That was the past and this was now.
Fortunately, when Sam entered homeroom that morning, Kurt was already in his usual seat - thank God for the fact that you lost the whole assigned seating thing once you got past...what? Sixth grade? - and the seat beside him was still empty. Sam didn't usually sit next to Kurt seeing as he was usually late in the mornings and Kurt was more of a right-on-time sort of guy, but it was the perfect opportunity to bring up the campaign for class president. Sam figured he could use some help appealing to the other students when he was so much more fabulous than them, so that was where he - your typical teenage dude - came in. He could probably be a valuable asset to Kurt over the course of his campaign, and besides, he was curious about his friend's strategy. He figured it would be very true to himself no matter what, which was good...it was trying not to sound better than them (which he was, better than many of them, but you never want to say that when you're trying to get people's votes) that might be a little hard.
"'Morning," Sam said, a halfhearted smile on his face as he plopped down into the chair beside Kurt's, his books hitting the desk with a slight thud. "You know, I saw one of your campaign posters in the hallway this morning. That was where his smile broadened into a grin, and he waited patiently (and ever so curiously) for a response.

“Maybe I’ll borrow one of Gaga’s many ideas, perhaps I can work out some way to appear out of an egg?”
[/i] Kurt thought to himself as he gently tilted his head to the side, before shaking his head slightly. “No, egg shell white is not my color.” Kurt thought to himself, his eyes scanning gently around the room, attempting to perhaps pick up on something that would help him with this issue. Yes, being gay and being out like he was would put him in a hard position – which, when didn’t it? Kurt was being constantly reminded about being gay from almost every angle – and it wasn’t like he didn’t love himself, but it was getting to him. If anything had been learned from last year, it was that Kurt had to embrace who he was and not care whether anyone thought differently, but sometimes – especially in situations like this one, where it really was all about what other people thought. The sound of someone taking the seat next to him drew Kurt’s eyes back as he took in the familiar face of Sam Evans. “Good morning.” Kurt said with a smile, glad to see a familiar face – even if normally, Sam was running late to homeroom, but on a morning like this – where his mind was so focused on this campaign and how to get it running, he could certainly use the distraction. “How are you, Sam?” Kurt asked as he gently turned in his seat a little to keep Sam in his view, while opening his notebook to begin jotting down any ideas that could very well come to mind. Kurt was glad to have Sam around; he had been one of the few straight guys at this school who didn’t care that he was gay, which was something Kurt gladly embraced. Yes, for about ten seconds, he had developed a silly crush on the boy, but it had passed, and he had Blaine now, and that was certainly a wonderful thing. “You did?” Kurt said with a smile as Sam mentioned his posters, something he was very proud of – he had spent hours working out a theme for them, and when he had finally come up with the Judy-like glamour theme, he had been so excited about it. “It’s just the beginning, really – but I need some ideas..” Kurt said, his eyes turning from Sam back to his blank notebook. When he had originally come up with the idea of running for senior class president, Kurt had assumed the ideas and the creativity would flow, but somehow it had stalled in the process. It wasn’t like Kurt had ever been elected or won anything – well, not anything he himself had signed himself up for that is, because he still had a Prom Queen crown sitting in his bedroom that said otherwise about being able to be elected something. Turning his eyes back to Sam, Kurt wondered if Sam could possibly be a vital person to his campaign. “What did you think of my posters, and be honest.” Kurt said grabbing his notebook, wanting feedback, and wanting it now. "How are you, Sam?" "I'm all right, how've you been?" Sam asked, shrugging one shoulder nonchalantly. He hadn't seen Kurt all summer, being busy with his job and watching Stevie and Stacy, so it was kind of a relief to see that he hadn't changed at all since last year. He still spoke and looked the same way...Sam didn't know why, but for some reason, with all his friends hitting their senior year, he was expecting them all to change. So far, only Quinn had, but that was for the better; being nicer didn't really count as the sort of change he was thinking of. Maybe because they were all supposed to be more mature now and gung-ho about looking at colleges, he expected them all to be more serious or to rebel against having to be more serious. But for the most part, they were all the same. He liked that better than the prospect of them changing anyways.
Sam still remembered meeting Kurt when he transferred the year before - he'd been very hell-bent on the idea that A) he dyed his hair (which, technically, was not true; he bleached it) and B) he was gay. He'd gotten over that fairly quickly, though, and really the only thing that stuck about that experience was the fact that Finn had been very opposed to it. Kurt had asked Sam to duet with him, and for some reason, Finn (then his sort of 'mentor') had thought it would be damaging to his rep because, y'know, everyone would assume Sam was gay, too. But luckily, all the hard feelings passed, and he was really only left with a vague memory. "Yeah, I did. It's a pretty good start," he complimented, still not 100% sure that it would appeal to the student body, but they definitely gave Kurt that air of intimidating coolness.
Sam watched as Kurt turned to stare at his notebook and then back up at him. Then, eagerly, he seized the notebook again and asked Sam what he thought of the campaign posters. A little taken aback at the sudden question, he stammered, "I, er, um..they were very you." Having gotten over the initial surprise, Sam added more intelligibly, "It's obviously a popularity contest, so you want that - you want them to sort of show who you are, I think - but you want to do it in a way that makes you seem less scary. You looked kind of cool in the posters, yeah, but they were kind of...intimidating." He had hacked into his small vocabulary and tried to draw out whatever words he could find to make sure Kurt didn't think he was just spewing random thoughts. Sam thought that if he was going to help Kurt, he didn't want to do it half-assed. He was going to really try and help instead of just act like he was helping like he did with most things.
